Minutes 06/20/1975 MINUTES OF PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD June 20 , 1975 The Parks and Recreation Board held its regular meeting June 20th, 1975 in Building D at the Collier County Courthouse at 9 :00 A.M. The following members were present : Steve Smith, John Lloyd, Paul Bogatko , Elton Townsend, Curt Rindy and Rollie R. Rice , Assistant Parks and Recreation Director. Paul Bogatko made the motion to accept last month' s minutes , seconded by Curt Rindy and approved unanimously. Mr . Rice presented to the Board a map indicating a piece of property that Mr. Taylor of Isle of Capri would like to either buy or have deeded to him by the Board of County Commissioners . As of now this property is deeded to the County as a park site. Mr. Rice stated that this piece of property is not really big enough to develop as a park site. After some discussion, it was decided to table any action of this property until a future meeting. The next item on the Agenda was discusison of a park in Ochopee. Mr . Rice presented to the Board a petition from the residents of the Ochopee area asking the Board of County Commissioners for a park. Mr. Rice stated that 10 acres has been donated for the park with the stipulation that the park be started one year after the dedication of the land to the County. Mr. Rice was instructed to work up a cost estimate on this park before making a decision. Discussion was held in reference to Dan Breeden' s resignation and Mr. Lloyd recommended that Mr. Rice be made the Director instead of hiring a new person. The secretary was instructed Parks and Recreation Board June 20 , 1975 Page -2- to write a letter to the Board of County Commissioners voicing the recommendation of this Board. It was the general consensous of the Parks Board that they have a meeting with the Board of County Commissioner to find out what their wishes are and to 1 { let them know what are ideas are and how we can work together to accomplish them. The next item on the Agenda is the Bayview Park situation. Mr. Rice stated that he has spoke with the County Manager about funds to renovate Bayview Park and the possible expansion of the Park. Mr. Rice suggested that when the Board has their joint meeting with the City Parks Board that this be one of the main subjects that be discussed to see if any solution can be resolved. Mr. Rice stated that he would like to check into the possibility of replacing the burned chickees with the permanent cement ones . These would be less likely to be vandalized and damaged. Mr. Rice presented a letter to the Board from Deltona Corp . stating that an access route to the Marco Beach Park is presently included in their Collier Bay Permit and upon issuance of the final Corps permit which is presently before them this access can be provided. ( Copy of letter and map enclosed) . Mr. Rice stated that he has been in contact with the Isle of Capri Civic Association in reference to the Association placing play equipment on the park site at Isle of Capri. Mr. Rice has spoke with Mr. Schulze and the County Attorney, Mr. Bruner Parks and Recreation Board June 20 , 1975 Page -3- concerning the legal aspects of this matter. Mr. Bruner stated that if the Association does place equipment on the park site it is still a public park and can not be private. Steve Smith made the motion to recommend to the Board of County Commissioners to accept the play equipment from the Civic Association and be placed on the park site as per planned development with no strings attached. Motion was seconded by Paul Bogatko and approved unanimously. Mr. Rice reminded the Board of their joint meeting with the City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board at the Community Center at 8 : 00 A.M. , Tuesday, June 24th.
