Minutes 03/14/1975 PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MINUTES OF March 14, 1975 The Collier County Parks and Recreation Board held its regular monthly meeting March 14, 1975 at 9 :00 A.M. , Collier County Courthouse, Building D, Naples , Florida. The following members were present : John Lloyd, Curt Rindy, Elton Townsend and Dan Breeden, Director of Parks and Recreation. Curt Rindy made the motion to approve the minutes of last month' s meeting , seconded by Elton Townsend and approved unanimously. The first item on the Agenda is the discussion on the status of Bayview Park. Mr. Wafaa Assaad of the Planning Department was available to present to the Board plans of the proposed development of Bayview Park and to answer any questions . (Please find attached Cost Estimate for the suggested improvements and expansion of Bayview Park) The proposed development calls for fishing pier, boat ramps , parking area, interior road, play equipment , chickees , water supply, repair of existing facilities , survey, plans and misc. Mr. Townsend moved to accept the general concept offered to the Board on Bayview Park. Motion was seconded by Curt Rindy and approved unanimously. The next item on the agenda is the Carver Complex. Steve Smith had asked this item to be placed on the agenda and he was not at the meeting and Mr. Breeden was not sure of what he had in mind. It was decided to table the discussion of the Carver Complex until Mr. Smith was able to attend the meeting. Parks and Recreation Board Minutes March 14, 1975 Page -2- Mr. Breeden presented to the Board an outline of the activities of the Parks and Recreation Winter Programs (See attached sheet) Mr. Breeden stated that he was very happy with this progress and he hopes that it will continue. Curt Rindy asked the Board if it would be possible to put tennis courts at Gulf View Middle School . Mr. Breeden replied that this area is too close to Cambier Park and it would be more practical to space the courts farther apart. Assaad DATE: February 20 , 1975 • SUBJECT: Bayview Park The Planning Department has investigated the existing Bayview Park .site and the surrounding properties, and attached to. this memorandum are generalized sketches showing the existing park property and facilities along with the proposed areas of expan-- , sion. Also attached is a rough cost estimate based on current • prices, and assuming normal construction conditions. I would like also to mention that a complete site survey would %. have to be conducted before we can develop a more accurate cost estimate and detailed development plans . (These cost estimates have not been broken down by year of improvement, this will probably be done in next year's C.I .P. ) . H El r-i H Ca 4: • • • FALL AND WINTER RECREATION PROGRAM REPORT PROGRAM MONTHS OCTOBER THROUGH FEBRUARY (1974-75) Within the program months October through February the Parks and Recreation Department conducted special interest classes in golf, tennis and gun safety. Tennis classes were conducted in beginning , intermediate, and advanced stages with a total of 111 class hours and 272 students for the combined fall and winter months . The instructor for this class was Anne Langley. The locations for these classes were as follows : Golden Gate, Avalon and Seagate Elementary schools . Golf classes were conducted in the same stages as tennis with 85 class hours and 821 students . The instructors for these classes were golf pro' s Ray Hall, Bill Sowerwine, Irene Bretzlaff and Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Rollie R. Rice. A new special interest class was introduced, gun safety with 15 class hours and 10 students . In total special interest classes contained 200 class hours with 1 , 103 students . Athletic programs were conducted in softball , and basketball for men and women of all ages . All athletic with the exception of girls basketball begin in January. The starting date for girls basketball was in February. Courts or fields used for the athletic program were located at the following places : Avalon, Shadowlawn, Gulf View, Seagate , Golden Gate , Poinciana, St.Anns , North Naples , East Naples , Pine Ridge, Everglades and Tommie Barfield schools . Men' s basketball consisted of 8 teams and 120 players in the industrial league , 4 teams and 40 players for the 30 and over league. This resulted in a total of 160 participants in men' s basketball . Men' s softball had a total of 84 participants with 6 teams . Women' s softball combined two divisions for 11 teams with 154 participants . The Junior Pro basketball program was broken into two leagues , depending on ages 7 , 8 ,9 Pee Wee League and 10 , 11 , 12 Junior Varsity League. This resulted in a total of 5 divisons , 29 teams and 330 participants . - 2 - Girls basketball had a total of 5 teams with 60 participants . Ground maintenance is a general term and primarily consists of mowing, trimming and watering grass , pulling weeds , repair of any facilities , such as buildings , sprinkler systems , fences , court surfaces . This was conducted as it was needed in the following areas : NORTH SOUTH INNOKALEE North Naples Elem. Tommie Barfield South Park Vanderbilt Beach Avalon Cemetary Seagate Elem. Shadowlawn Lake Trafford Poincianc Park Coconut Grove Park Health Center Poincianc Elem Harbor Lane Park High School Baseball Naples High School Tiger Tail Beach New Ball Diamond Golden Gate School Isles of Capri Park Tennis Court (High Schoo Golden Gate Park Courthouse Grounds Immokalee Park Gulf View "Middle School Oil Well PArk Scenic Drive Park The Parks and Recreation Department is involved in Capital Improvement projects in the following areas . These projects are either completed or in advanced stages of completion and are as follows : Seagate - Completed lighted baseball field and constructed two tennis courts . Naples High School - Completed construction of four (4) tennis courts . Tommie Barfield - Completed construction of lighted ball field started construction of two tennis courts . Avalon Community Park - Completed two lighted tennis courts , three paddle tennis courts , one basketball court , and install well and pumphouse for irrigation. Immokalee High School - Constructed two tennis courts and building a lighted softball and baseball field. Gulfview Middle School - Limerocked around basketball courts and installed lights . Shadowlawn School - Built practice baseball field. Poinciana School - Built practice baseball field. South Immokalee Park - Completed fencing of park, installed equipment for two basketball courts and installed tot lot equipment on playground. Everglades City - Assisted in finishing two tennis courts and donated light fixtures for night play.
