PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING

The Collier County Parks and Recreation Board held
its regular monthly meeting at Collier County Courthouse in
Building D, December 13 , 1974 at 9 : 00 A.M. The following
members were present : Steve Smith, John Lloyd, Paul Bogatko ,
Margaret Garrison, Curt Rindy, Elton Townsend and Rollie
R. Rice , Assistant Parks and Recreation Director.
Motion was made by John Lloyd to approve the minutes
of last month' s meeting, seconded by Curt Rindy. Motion
approved unanimously.
Mr. Ken Silva, Treasurer and Shault Coker, Director
representatives of the YMCA were present at the meeting to
discuss the possibilities of the YMCA working with the County
in helping each other with facilities . They explained that
the YMCA is a new facility and that the growth of Collier County
is not what they had anticipated and that the YMCA is behind
a few years in memberships and participation. They would like
to develop fully the twenty (20) acres that they own now. The
main facility they are interested in is a gymnasium which there
is a shortage of. The Board expressed their feelings of doubt
in the legal aspects of the County joining with a private
group in a lease agreement .
Both groups decided to organize a Committee to work
out details on a lease agreement to see if it is at all possibble

for a private organization such as the YMCA to work with the
County. Curt Rindy and Dan Breeden of the Parks Board will
meet with members of the YMCA to discuss the situation. The
appointments of Curt Rindy and Dan Breeden was agreed upon.
Steve Smith thanked Mr. Coker and Mr. Silva for coming
before the Board and that the Board would help in whatever
way possible.
Mr. Townsend inquired if letters had ever been written
to the State concerning piers at Bay View Park. Mr. Rice
stated that there is a lot of red tape involved in getting
permits but that the Parks Department would check into the
piers .
Mr. Smith stated that he had been in contact with
representatives of Del-Nor Park and that construction should
start on the Park around January or February.
There being no further business , the meeting adjourned
at 10 : 10 P .M.
