PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
SEPTEMBER 13 , 1974
The Parks and Recreation Board held its regular
monthly meeting September 13 , 1974 at 9 :00 A.M. in Building
D, Collier County Courthouse . The following members were
present : Steve Smith, Margaret Garrison, John Lloyd, Paul
Boagatko, Elton Townsend, Curt Rindy and Rollie R. Rice,
Assistant Parks and Recreation Director.
Mr. Lloyd made the motion to approve the minutes of
July' s meeting. Motion seconded by Mrs . Garrison and approved
unanimously.
Discussion was held on the seven (7) park sites at
Isle of Capri. The Parks Department is in receipt of a letter
from the Isle of Capri Civic Association wherein they would
like to have the property deeded to the people of Isle of Capri.
Mr. Rice stated that Mr. Breeden is opposed to transferring
any publicly owned property deeded to the County as park sites
to private or civic organizations . The people from Isle
of Capri Civic Association are on record as being opposed to
any park development on the Isle of Capri by the County Parks
Department. Mr. Lloyd made the motion that the Park Board at
this time make no further plans for development at the Isle
of Capri park sites but that they are opposed to returning
the land to private ownership and that the County continue
to clean and maintain the area and keep it in presentable
order. Motion seonded by Mrs . Garrison and approved unanimously.

A motion was made by Steve Smith to send a recommendation
to the Board of County Commissioners not to deed the land
to the residents of Isle of Capri for private development .
Seconded by Mr. Lloyd and approved unanimously.
It was suggested that the Parks Board write to the
D.O.T . in reference to a boat ramp on SR 951 North of the
Marco Bridge.
Discussion was held on the field trip to the golf
course site. The Board felt that the site that was offered
to them was not suitable for a golf course. It was the
general consensus of the Board that due to the present
economic situation that the municipal golf course be delayed.
Mr. Lloyd made the motion to table any action of the golf
course site. Seconded by Mrs . Garrison and motion approved
unanimously.
The next item on the Agenda was Capital Improvements .
The Board decided that two more lighted ball fields and a
ninety foot (90 ' ) ball diamond were needed.
Steve Smith mentioned that Hank Caballero of the Naples
Park Board would like to have a joint meeting with the County
Parks Board to discuss the City and County bicycle paths
interlocking. Mr. Smith stated that he would get in contact
with Hank Caballero on a meeting date and time. Mr. Rice
passed a map around showing the bicycle paths in the County,
proposed and present. Mrs . Garrison made the motion to order
signs showing the present bicycle paths in the County. Seconded

Steve Smith stated that there have been some
complaints concerning Bay View Park as to rubbish and
debris . Mr. Rice stated that the only problems we have at Bay
View Park is the burning of chickees and that four chickees
have already been burned. The Parks Department has an estimate
on replacing and repairing the chickees . The total estimate is
$2700 - $700 for repairing of the chickees and $2000 for
replacing the chickees .
Mr. Rice reported to the Board that the restrooms at
Golden Gate have been closed for good. He stated that the
lavoratories had been torn from the walls and smashed against
the walls and the commodes had been completely demolished.
There being no further business , the meeting adjourned
at 10 : 30 A.M.
