PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
JULY 19, 1974
The Parks and Recreation Board held its regular monthly
meeting July 19, 1974 at 9:00 A.M. in Building D, Collier
County Courthouse. Members present at the meeting were:
Paul Bogatko, Steve Smith, JohnIloyd, Margaret Garrison,
Curt Rindy and Rollie Rice, Assistant Park Director.
Mr. Bogatko made the motion to approve the minutes of
the last Board meeting, seconded by Mr. Lloyd. Motion approved.
Mr. Rice explained to the Board since the last meeting, the
Parks Department had taken over the maintenance of Lake Trafford
Cemetery in. Immokalee. The Department is in the process of
trying to obtain more equipment for our crews to maintain the
cemetery. Mr. Rice explained that the cemetery is a big project
and that eventually a full time crew will be needed at the
cemetery. Mr. Rice went on to explain that Mr. Breeden has
put in for the equipment and a crew for the next budget . Chairman
Smith suggested that the Board look at the Budget at the next
month' s Board meeting.
A couple of months ago the Board had a field trip to the
proposed site for a golf course. It was the decision of the
Board then to take another look at the site during the rainy
season. Chairman Smith suggested the Board take a field trip to
the site August 9th, along with Tom Peek of Wilson, Miller, Barton,
Soll and Peek. It was the consensus of the Board to meet at
the Courthouse with Tom Peek at 9 A.M. to visit the proposed
golf course site. It was also suggested that the Board take
a field trip to Isle of Capri to look at the park sites in that
area following the trip to the golf course site.
Lee Morton from the Planning Department was at the meeting
to speak to the Board on the inputs for the Master PLan for
Collier County. Mr. Bogatko questioned Ms . Morton about the
parks at Golden Gate. He stated that according to the original
plats Golden Gate has several areas that were set aside for
parks . He wanted to know if there was a way for the people to
get this land that was set aside for the parks . Ms. Morton
replied that this would have to be checked into but she did
not think the County could get GAC to turn the property over.
Chairman Smith inquired as to why no parks had been
proposed for the area of Coral Ridge Properties . Ms . Morton
stated that the Planning Department just recently saw the
Plans for Coral Ridge Properties for the first time and there
will be parks and a community center.
After some discussion, the Parks Board decided on the
following inputs for the Master Plan:
a) A Park for the Pine Ridge Area.
b) A Community Park in the vicinity of Lely South.
c ) A Community Park at Isle of Capri (Gran Property) .
d) A Large P-rk in the North Naples area in the vicinity
of the proposed sewage plant.
e ) Parks in the Naples Park area on the East and West
side of U.S. 141 .
f) A Community Park in the Rattlesnake Hammock Area.
g) Boat ramps at Vanderbilt Beach and the Wiggins Pass
area.
h) Bayview Park be expanded to a Regional Park.
i) A Park east of Bridle Path and North of Davis Blvd. on
Radio Road.
Chairman Smith asked the Planning Department to show the
beach front property that the Parks Board has on Marco as a
Community Park and also the Barefoot Beach South of Lee County
Line.
Mr. Bogatko made the motion to chang the parks at the
schools from community parks to neighborhood parks in name only.
Motion seconded by Mrs . Garrison. Motion approved.
Chairman Smith suggested the Parks Department acquire more
information in reference to Delnor Park from eith Mr. Turner,
County Manager or the State Parks and Recreation Department in
Tallahassee .

Mr. Bogatko asked Mr. Woodruff if it would be possible
to have a reduced map of the County showing the Parks as the
Planning Department has . Mr. Woodruff said he would check into
the possibility.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned
at 10:45 A.M.
