Citizen Corps Advisory Minutes 11/18/2015 Collier County Citizen Corp. Committee November 18, 2015 Voting members Present: Jerry Sanford, Fire Chief's Association. Al Goodall, American Red Cross. Justin McElwee, American Red Cross. Russ Rainer, C.E.R.T. Reg Buxton, Chamber of Commerce. Walt Jaskiewicz, Coast Guard Aux. Dr. Joseph Neiween, MRC. Jose Caritto, CCSO. Voting Members Excused: Vice-Chairman Lee Henderson, Civil Air Patrol. Rachel Brandhorst, RSVP. Expert Consultant Present: Barry Gerenstein C.E.R.T. Rick Zvoloski, CCEM. Kristi Nadler, CCEM. Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jaskiewicz at 3:00 p.m. Jerry Sanford led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. A motion was made by Reg Buxton to accept the previous minutes. The motion was seconded by Russ Rainey. Russ Rainey introduced Barry Gerenstein who will be the C. E.R.T. representative to the Citizen Corp as Russ Rainey is retiring. Threat Update, CCSO rep Jose Carritto reports that there are no local threats at this time. No old business to discuss. Mike Shaw has asked that all members contact him if you cannot make the meeting to ensure we have a quorum. He also invited interested members to attend a course on multi agency exercise planning to be held on January 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at North Collier fire station 45. In addition, Pediatrics/Mass Casualty discussions will begin on December 16, with a potential table top exercise in the spring. New Business Rick Zvoloski reports that a D.O.H. training session will take place on December 9th, 2015. The Hurricane season is almost over with El-Nino beginning in December and running through February with cooler temperatures during that period. The rainfall is expected to be higher. South Florida & Central Florida can expect greater threats of tornados. A rough winter is predicted. Individual Reports Reg Buxton reports that the Chamber of Commerce presented the annual Public Service Awards to members of Fire, CCSO, EMS and our own Rick Zvoloski from CCEOC. Congratulations to Rick. Jerry Sanford reports that the recent CERT class in North Collier Fire had 32 students which conducted two separate graduating drills on October 5th and 6th, 2015. The Collier County Honor Flight completed their seventh mission to Washington DC on November 7th in which we took 72 World War 2 veterans to DC for the day. The Freedom Memorial is progressing with a spring completion date. Al Goodall reports that the Red Cross has prepared 706 Christmas stockings for the troops in Afghanistan. They installed over 550 smoke detectors at the farm workers village in lmmokalee. Dr. Neiween reports that the flu season so fa has been very mild. He urges all to get the flu shots. Russ Rainey reports that the Fiddler's Creek Community has 8 new Cert members. The Greater Naples District has absorbed the Isle of Capri fire district and would like to start a Cert team. The Fiddler's Creek Cert team will only assist their community. Reg Buxton reports that the Chamber of Commerce is still looking for a new President. Mr. Dudley Goodlette is serving as acting Chairman until a replacement can be found. Chairman Walt Jaskiewicz reports that the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be opening a new station in Marco Island. He spoke about the new Rescue 21 program and a new radio that contains a red button that when activated can immediately give the location to the distressed boater. He travels around the region speaking about the new Rescue 21 system. The auxiliary continues to work with Law enforcement agencies. Ms. Kristin Nadler was introduced as a new employee of EOC.
