Meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m.
Vice Chairman Lee Henderson led us in the pledge of Allegiance.
Roll call conducted.
A quorum was present.
A motion was made by Reg Buxton to accept the minutes.The motion was
seconded by Russ Rainey. All voted for approval.
Threat Update- CCSO rep Jose Carrillo reports that there are no local threats at
this time although kids are breaking into cars. Always lock your car.
Old Business- Please convey any changes to your contacts to Mike Shaw.
Emergency Management -Requests for Review.
The Multi-Year Training and Exercise Plan/SOG from Collier County Emergency
Management was presented by Mike Shaw and Michael Morlan. The Plan/
SOG has been updated to the years 2016-2018. Motion to approve made by
Jerry Sanford, seconded by Lee Henderson. All voted in favor for approval.
The Collier County All-Hazards Strategic Plan covering 2015 to 2018 was
presented by Mike Shaw for approval. Motion to approve by Reg Buxton,
seconded by Russ Rainey. All voted in favor for approval.
New Business.
Emergency Management Department Update.
Rick Zyvoloski reports that the hurricane season has arrived. We must keep our
guard up. The worse El Nino condition in history is now reported in the Pacific
Ocean. Predictions for a very low hurricane season for us.
LMS Report. Rick Zyvoloski reports that at the LMS meeting last week, Ms.
Samantha Quinn has been appointed as manager of the Flood Plains
Department. The next meeting is in October.
Training& Exercise Update.
A shelter training drill was conducted at Palmetto Ridge High School on June
30th with many agencies taking part. Special needs and general population
skills were tested. Many thanks go out to all that made this a successful drill.
Cert and CAP volunteers took part in the drill. It was a great hands on
experience for all.
Individual Reports
Reg Buxton reports that all is well in the Chamber and will continue to distribute
information to all its members.
Russ Rainey reports that he attended a region 6 meeting of Cert teams at the
Estero Fire department on July 23rd and discussed various areas in which teams
from Lee and Collier County can train together.The next Region meeting is in
October. Verona Walk Cert had NBC meteorologist Scott Zadekir speak at their
meeting regarding Hurricane Preparedness. The Fiddlers Creek community
continues to be a Fire Wise Community which encourages owners to cut back
vegetation around their homes. There is no insurance reduction for living in a
fire wise community.
Justin McElwee reports that the Red Cross participated in the shelter drill at
Palmetto Ridge high School. They also participated in a drill in Lee County.They
are getting ready for the hurricane season and have installed over 200 smoke
detectors in homes throughout Collier County. Low income communities are
targeted. They will participate in a drill at the Ft. Myers Airport on August 14th.
Jerry Sanford reports that he had 30 Cert members attend a briefing at the
EOC hosted by Mike Shaw on July 6th. The Freedom Memorial project is moving
along with the awarding of a $1,3000.000 contract with Gates Construction
Company with a completion date of spring 2016. He is also working on putting
together a memorial ceremony to mark the 14th Anniversary of September 11th,
2001.
Lee Henderson reports that things in the CAP are quiet during the summer.
They continue to make coastal patrols. They will make a fly over on August 7th
to mark the Spirit of 45 celebration.
Kathleen Marr reports that the Medical Reserve Corp is looking for a new
director.The Department of Health is quiet now.
Mike Morlan reports that all BES trailers will be pre-staged at all schools that
are designated as shelters. A new Collier 72 web site went on line last week
and will enable all citizens of Collier County to prepare for an emergency.
Mike Shaw advised that the EM Ambulance/Rehab Bus will be trained on by
Fire personnel in immokalee and Marco Island in August.
Walt Jaskiewicz reports that the Coast Guard Auxiliary has approximately 15
trained members out of 60 that started that are certified to be on the AMBROS
team. The remaining 15 trained members can be used for planning, landing
sites,family assistance centers and public affairs. Two of the 15 reside in Collier
County and one is Walt Jaskiewicz. Great job Walt.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 16th at 3:00 p.m.
