A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
'_° COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY
SUPPORTING STATE LEGISLATION TO •
INCREASE REVENUES FOR STATE AND
e COUNTY TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS
}
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County
is vitally concerned with the ability of State and local 's
governments to adequately finance needed highway and public
transportation improvements in Collier County and in the State of
Florida due to the relatively high growth rate; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County
recognizes the tremendous needs that will be generated by this
projected growth; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the business

community, and the public-at-large, to have a safe and efficient
transportation system; and .N.
WHEREAS, without adequate financial resources, the } k
transportation system will deteriorate both physically and ��*
operationally resulting in loss of g ! efficien and greater
_ efficiency g hazard
to motorists and pedestrians; and
WHEREAS, the cost of delaying the decision to provide
transportation revenues will continue to increase geometrically,
as costs rise, and as highway deterioration and capacity
deficiencies accelerate; and
WHEREAS, the consequences of delayed action will result in

• increased urban congestion, motor fuel consumption, air pollution,
accidents and degradation of the quality of life; and
WHEREAS, the State Highway System in Collier County is not
adequately financed to provide for transportation improvements to
meet the growing demands of the area and to meet appropriate
levels of service as set forth in the Collier County Growth
Management Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA:

That the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County does
> hereby support the actions of the Statewide Metropolitan Planning
I Organization Advisory Committee and the Florida Association of
<;; Counties concerning the need for additional highway funding at
wt
; '. both the local and state level.
SECTION TWO:
Is
That the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County does
hereby endorse and support the following principles that should be
contained in any such legislation: (a) All revenues should be
collected from user-based sources; (b) All revenues collected ,
under such legislation should be allocated for transportation
purposes; and (c) All funds should be disbursed to the State, the
Counties, and the Cities in accordance with their respective road
responsibilities.
SECTION THREE:,
That the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County
directs that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the
individual members of the Legislative Delegation representing
Collier County, Florida and to the Florida Association of
Counties.
This Resolution adopted after motion, second and roll call
vote as follows:
