PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The Brotherhood Ride organization formed in 2007 after nine firefighters in
Charleston, South Carolina died in the line of duty. Lieutenant Jeff Morse and
wife, Candy, wanted to demonstrate that the loss of those heroes would never be
forgotten; and,
WHEREAS, The Brotherhood Ride is a non-profit 501(c)(3)public charity organization
consisting of firefighters, police officers and emergency medical system personnel
who bicycle with a mission to provide emotional and financial support to the
families of first responders who have fallen in the line of duty; and,
WHEREAS, Over the past seven years, the Brotherhood Ride has cycled more than 5,000
miles, through 16 states, often assisted by more than 40 Elks Lodges. They have
raised more than $248,000 for families of their fallen brethren. Past
Brotherhood Rides include cycling to Charleston, South Carolina; throughout
Florida; Houston, Texas; New York City; and Tennessee; and,
WHEREAS, The 2015 Brotherhood Ride began in North Naples on Saturday, June 6, and
travelled 650 miles to Tallahassee eight days later; and,
WHEREAS, The 2015 Brotherhood Ride honored 10 law enforcement officers: Officer Robert
G. German from the Windermere Police Department; Lt. Homer "J.R. "Harrell
from the Orange City Fire Department; Officer Char/es Kondek from the Tarpon
Springs Police Department; Officer Mark H. Larson from the Jacksonville
Sheriff's Office; Lt. Jeffrey B. New/and from North Port Fire and Rescue;
Deputy Johnathan Scott Pine from the Orange County Sheriff's Office; Trooper
Chelsea Richard from the Florida Highway Patrol; Deputy Christopher Smith from
the Leon County Sheriff's Office; Assistant Chief Roger D. Tome from the
Kennedy Space Center Fire Rescue; and K9 Baron from the St. Johns County
Sheriff's Office.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proc/aimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners
hereby honors and recognizes the work and mission of the Brotherhood Ride
Organization.
