WHEREAS, in 2001 Collier County became an "entitlement"recipient of Federal Funds from
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County certified that it will affirmatively further fair housing opportunities
and will work to identify and remove impediments to fair housing choices; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County's Consolidated Five-Year FY2011-2016 Plan, outlines fair housing
initiatives that will be undertaken which include education and outreach campaigns
to further fair housing choices for Collier County residents; and,
WHEREAS, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fair Housing Act of 1968, as
amended, prohibit the discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing
based on race, religion, sex, national origin, handicap or familial status; and,
WHEREAS, the Secretary of HUD has proclaimed April 2015, as 'National Fair Housing
Month' and asked all CDBG Entitlement Communities to join them in celebrating the
freedom of housing choices and fair housing opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County feel that every American has
a right to live where they choose with dignity and without fear of discrimination,
and actively support its Fair Housing education and outreach initiatives,
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that April 2015 be designated as
NATIONAL FAIR HOUSING MONTH
