PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, local artists Grace Lake, E. George Rogers and Elsie Upham founded the Naples Art
Association as a not-for-profit visual arts organization, and a Petition for Charter was
filed on June 15, 1954 with 30 signatures; and,
WHEREAS, the .1100 member-strong Nap/es Art Association is celebrating its 60th anniversary in
February, 2014 with many activities culminating with a 60th Anniversary Gala and auction;
and,
WHEREAS, because of the tireless efforts of the Naples Art Association, art is readily available to
all citizens of Southwest Florida via studio courses, workshops, exhibitions, art
trips/tours, and the like; and,
WHEREAS, local artists are showcased throughout the year at Art in the Park, curate, juried and
non-juried exhibitions and two day festivals; and,
WHEREAS, the Naples National Art Festival, ranked nationally in the top 10 by artists, is
celebrating its 39h anniversary in February, 2014; and,
WHEREAS, The von Liebig Art Center, owned and operated by the Naples Art Association, is
celebrating its 15th anniversary of providing programs of excellence in the visual arts to
the Naples community; and,
WHEREAS, the first annual Sponsors Show was organized to raise funds to provide art scholarships
to Collier County high school students to further their art studies at the college level,
and has developed into the Jade Riedel Scholarship program; and, •
WHEREAS, children can experience the joy of art through year round programs and a professionally
taught ARTScool summer art program designed to strengthen critical thinking skills,
problem solving ability and improve test scores; and,
WHEREAS, the Naples Art Association has successfully established and maintains the cultural heart
of Naples and indeed in all of Southwest Florida , recognizing that art is not only the
historian of the past, but speaks a universal language that is vital to the future of
Mankind.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that February 17-23, 2014 be designated as
