Meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance recited and roll call taken.
The previous minutes of October 15th, 2014 were approved.
Nominations and vote for new officers will take place at the next meeting on
March 18, 2015.
Individual Reports
Medical Reserve Corp, Dr. Neiween reports that we are in the middle of a bad
flu season. All people should be vaccinated.The use of TAMA flu shot is
recommended.The sooner started on anti-viral the better. Flu is widespread
throughout the country, mild in Collier County. Question to Dr. Neiween.
Would a double flu shot do any good? Answer. NO. Older population getting
measles because the vaccination taken at a very young age is wearing off.
Coast Guard
Walt Jaskiewicz reports that the CG Aux response team has 18 members that
can be deployed through the 7th Coast Guard District. If a mass casualty event
occurs, 2 or 3 Aux members can be dispatched to the incident.The next drill will
be in Hawaii in August.
Veterans Council
Jim Elson reported on his recent accident and has asked Wilfred "Freddy"
Vasquez to be in charge of the Veterans Council. Freddy reported that he and
Jerry Sanford flew a flag over the Freedom Memorial that was presented to U.S.
Army Staff Sgt. Edward Hughes on Christmas morning. An organization called
"Home Base" is having a ceremony at the Kensington Country Club to honor
returning veterans on February 21St. A lot of returning veterans are suffering
from P.T.S.B. and the "Home Base" members assist in their rehabilitation.
Civil Air Patrol
Lee Henderson reports that they continue to fly sunset patrols along the
wilderness waterways. They only can fly about 30 patrols due to lack of funding.
They are looking into Grants as recommended by the BCC. The traveling
Vietnam Wall will be coming to Marco Island from February 13th & 14th, 2015. A
Freedom Fountain on Marco Island will be dedicated on February 12th.
Freedom Memorial
Jerry Sanford President of the Freedom Memorial foundation reports that
efforts are under way for a big fund raising event to be held at the memorial site
on Friday, February 20th. He hopes to raise the necessary funds to complete the
project that began in 2003.
American Red Cross
Al Goodall reports that some Red Cross staff has been cut in Collier County, but
will get support from other parts of the state if needed. Shelter classes will
begin before the next Hurricane season begins.
CERT
Russ Ramsey reports that a County Wide Disaster drill is planned for Saturday,
March 21st at Nursery Lane in North Naples.
EOC
Dan Summers recognized Mike Shaw for his outstanding work at the recent
Ebola Drills.The EOC is very busy due to the arrival of our "Seasonal Residents".
