Citizen Corps Advisory Minutes 10/15/2014 Collier County Citizen Corp Committee October 15, 2014 Voting Members Present: Reg Buxton, Chamber of Commerce Mike Jones, CCSO Jerry Sanford, Fire Chief's Association Walter Jaskiewicz, Coast Guard,Aux Jim Elson, Collier County Vets CnI Wilfred Vasquez, Collier County Vets CnI Rachel Brandhorst, RSVP Kathleen Marr, Medical Reserve Corp Lee Henderson, Civil Air Patrol Chris Nind, Salvation Army Julian Morgan, Salvation Army Expert Consultant Present: Mike Shaw, CCEM Rick Zyvoloski, CCEM Meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance recited and roll call taken by Vice Chairman Mike Jones. Vice Chairman Mike Jones chaired the meeting. He reported that Jim Elson is stepping down as the representative of the Veterans Council and will be replaced by retired Amy Sgt, Major Wilfredo Vasquez. The previous minutes of September 17th were approved. Reg Buxton made the motion and was second by Jerry Sanford. Threat Update Lt. Mike Jones reported that there is no change in the threat level. Hurricane Season Rick Zvalowski reports that the hurricane season is almost over. El Nino is coming this winter which will produce a very wet season. LMS Report Rick Zvalowski reports that there is a meeting at the libruary on Friday, October 17th. More information on mitigation can be found on the website. He is looking for new members. EOC Update Mike Shaw reports that a new coordinator, Michael Morlan has been hired to handle the shelters. All future exercises (MCI) will be under HD compliance and will become standard for all future drills.They are always looking to other counties for more education opportunities. Individual Reports Kathleen Marr reports that the only Ebola cases right now are in Texas. Florida is in the planning phase not response mode. Our health department is very proactive in the county. Jerry Sanford reports that he hosted a September 11th Memorial Service at the First Baptist Church on September 11th. The Pink Heals Tour,which is comprised of Pink Fire Trucks that visit communities to promote Cancer Awareness will be arriving on Wednesday, October 29th at the Mercato. Walt Jaskiewicz reports that the Coast Guard program AMROS is in place. It means Auxiliary Mass Rescue Operations Specialist and can be activated immediately if a situation develops. On November 4th, 5th &6th in Ft. Lauderdale an exercise will take place after a plane hits a bus.The AMROS will be activated immediately. Jim Elson reports that a ceremony will take place on Veterans Day, November 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Cambier Park.This ceremony marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War 1.A USO show will be taking place at Grand Central Station immediately following the ceremony at Cambier Park. Sgt. Major Vasquez reports that a new program has begun called "Home Base" under the leadership of General Frank. A fund raiser at Jet Blue Park raised over $150,000 for our local returning soldiers. "Homes for American Hero's" have turned over a home in Pembrook Pines to a homeless veteran. On October nth a nine- hole golf tournament with the proceeds going to the veterans will be held at The Colony Golf Club. Chris Nind introduced the new director Mr.Julian Morgan who reported that the Salvation Army has just purchased the old KIA dealership on Airport Road for their Youth Center. They will again this year administer the Toys for Tots program in the County. Rachel Brandhorst has replaced Steve Smith at RSVP. Lee Henderson reports that the CAP of Marco Island continue to fly to the Keys working with the Air Force to look for stranded boaters.
