MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BIG CORKSCREW
ISLAND REGIONAL PARK INFORMATIONAL
PRESENTATION
Naples, Florida, September 30, 2014
LET IT BE REMEMBERED, that the Collier County Parks and Recreation,
in and for the County of Collier, having conducted business herein, met on
this date at 6:30 P.M. at IFAS Extension — University of Florida Institute
and Agricultural Sciences Collier County Extension, 12700 Immokalee
Road, Immokalee, Florida.

Tim Hancock, AICP — Stantec welcomed everyone and introduced
himself, Steve Carnell, Public Services Administrator and Barry Williams,
Director of Parks and Recreation. He gave an Overview of the 2006 Park
Plan and the proposed design changes. He noted the park has 59 acres to
construct on. The proposed projects included parking in the acreage.
The meeting was held to get input from the public on the Park Design, At
the end of the meeting, the audience would get a chance to vote on what they
would like in the park. A second meeting will be held to present the Park
Plan which will include the choices voted on at tonight's meeting.
Barry Williams mentioned a 97 acre lake, adjacent to park, could be either
filled in or dug-out to give the opportunity for future phases.
Tim Hancock introduced Commissioner Tim Nance of District 5.
Commissioner Nance stated District 5 was the only district without a park.
He indicated the Budget FY14-15 includes $4,000,000 to construct the park
and that it will take $12,000,000 to complete.
Steve Carnell noted any persons who would like information emailed to
them could print their email address behind their name on the sign-in sheet
at the end of the meeting. The Parks and Recreation website will post Park
Plans and updates.
Presentation Boards with proposed projects and acreage required were
displayed:
➢ Lakes — 5-6 Acres
➢ Racquetball Courts — 4 Acres
➢ Little League Complex— 4 Fields
➢ Pickle Ball Courts (multiple outdoor courts)
➢ Basketball Courts — 6 Acres
➢ 4 — Tennis Courts — 1.25 Acres
➢ 4 —Soccer/Multi-Purpose Field— 12 Acres
➢ Dog Park— 5 Acres
➢ Gymnasium - 4 Courts, Indoor
➢ Multi Sports Complex—Adrenaline—Plus 40 Acres
➢ 18 Hole Frisbee Golf— 10 Acres (5 acres for 9 holes)
➢ Interactive Water Feature - .5 Acres
➢ Community Center—Plus 5,320 sf
➢ Walking/Jogging Path with pavilions

Tim Hancock gave a slide presentation on the 2006 Park Plans reporting
was included in the plans and proposed projects not in the current plan.

Jeff Butzke presented the proposed plan for the Multi Sports Complex. He
noted his group was a not for profit organization. The organization would
build, staff and maintain the Sports Complex. He spoke on plans for future
tournaments, scholarships and inviting soccer scouts to Naples to meet
players.
Tim Hancock held a "question and answer session."
All questions were addressed.
Discussion on size of Community Center& Playground and access to the
Park were made. Concerns on the Community Center and park access were
voiced.
It was noted, if Multi Sports Complex was chosen; funds for the 40 plus
acres required would not come out of the County budget allowing funds to
be utilized to construct on the remaining park acreage.
Tim Hancock held an "opinion round" and the following audible
suggestions were made in addition to projects proposed:
- Dirt Bike Path or BMX Track
- Safe access to Park
- Nature Walk and Bike trail with flowers to attract
wild life possibly fenced to protect the beauty and
wild life
- Football Fields, possibly adapt fields for football
- Parking garages (cost prohibited)
- Controlling the noise level and protecting the life
style of the neighborhood
- Pool
Commission Tim Nance spoke briefly on the new proposed access
entrance to Palmetto Ridge High School and to the Park.
Barry Williams reported Rangers patrol the Parks and the Sheriff's Office
works with Parks and Recreation.

The "Opinion Round" continued:
- Ice Skating Rink
- Consider reconfiguring the parking for kayaking
- Traffic safer for making left hand turn onto
Immokalee
- Back-up plan — Park will be too small for more
developments
- Park seems to be created for teenagers and adults
- Community Center needs to be larger
- Activities similar to the YMCA
- Petting Zoo
- Focus more on Community Park and Pool
Staff distributed voting envelopes, with 3 green dots and 1 red dot, to each
attendee. They were instructed to place a green dot in a cup placed before 3
of the proposed projects they would like to see in the Park Plan. The one red
dot would be used for the proposed project they liked the least.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
