Advisory Board, having conducted business herein,met on this date at 2:00 P.M.
in REGULAR SESSION at the North Collier Regional Park, Administration

I CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chair Edward "Ski" Olesky called the meeting to order at 2:05 PM.
A quorum was established;four voting members were present.
IL PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE&INVOCATION
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The Invocation was offered by Mary Bills.
III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Vice Chairman Olesky moved to approve the Agenda as presented. Second by Murdo
Smith. Carried unanimously,4-0.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: APRIL 17,2013
Correction:
• Title Page—Location was changed to Naples,Florida
Murdo Smith moved to approve the minutes of the April 17,2013 meeting as amended.
Second by Mary Bills. Carried unanimously,4—0.
V. STAFF HIGHLIGHTS
A) Field Report—Rick Corby
• A copy of a Field Usage Report for 2013 was distributed to the Committee
Members.
• Report detailed hours available,hours used,and percentage of utilization for the
following County parks on a quarterly basis:
o Corkscrew Elementary/Middle School
o Eagle Lakes Community Park
o East Naples Community Park
o Eden Elementary School
o Golden Gate Community Park
o Gulf Coast
o Immokalee Community Park
o Immokalee Sports Complex
o Max Hasse Community Park
o Naples Park Field(Starched Petty)
o North Collier Regional Park—Soccer
o North Collier Regional Park--Softball
o Osceola Elementary School
o Palmetto Elementary School

Questions were raised concerning the computation of hours and why the school's usage
was included.
Barry Williams agreed if the Report counted the hours used by the Schools for
programs, it should also count the same hours as available
Jeanine McPherson noted it was not based on a 24-hour per day availability but on
how much usage the turf could withstand per week,i.e.,30 hours for softball and 20
hours for soccer.
Mr.Williams stated the Report would be reviewed and brought back before the
Committee at the next meeting. He noted the Report did take into consideration the
amount of time each field was used by the Schools which affected the maintenance
needs for that field.

Vice Chairman Olesky turned to the meeting over to the Chairman.)
B) Employee of the Month—February,2013
• Jake Sullivan,Senior Park Ranger,was honored as the Employee of the
Month for February,2013.
Director Barry Williams recognized Mr. Sullivan with a plaque and thanked
him for his outstanding service to the County.
C) Parks Showcase: Veterans'Community Park Jeanine McPherson,Regional
Manager,and Shannon Darrow,Supervisor
• A brochure was distributed to the Committee Members.
• Statistics:
o Resident Beach Stickers—$40,000
o Non-resident Beach Stickers—$5,000
o Users— 120,000
o Program participants—2,500
• Community Partners/Co-Sponsored Sports Leagues
o North Naples Little League
o Calverton Baseball League
o Naples Girls' Softball Little League
o Senior Softball League
o Naples Roller Hockley Association
o RSVP Bone Builders
• Summer Camps
o Offers special programs
o Theme: "Play—Connect—Discover"
• Improvements;
o New A/C installed
o Replaced all foul nets(safety issue)
o Installed borders around all fields
o Renewed"rover run"

• Staff:
o 5 full-time employees
o Need: additional Program Leader
o Level of Service has been maintained
VI. NEW BUSINESS
A) Advisory Board Application Interviews
• Janice Wohl rescinded her application.
• Interviews were conducted of the following applicants:
o Kathleen Watts(via telephone)
o Neil Curley
o George Fogg
o John Fuchs
o Marilynn Huston
• Each applicant provided an overview of personal background as well as professional
history/accomplishments.
o Concerns were expressed regarding the ability of all candidates to attend the
total number of scheduled meetings(many indicated they would be out of
j the area for three or four months).
o John Fuchs stated he would be available to fly into Naples to attend meetings
as necessary.
• After lengthy discussion,the candidates were ranked.
o The top two candidates were John Fuchs and Marilynne Houston.
• 'The Advisory Committee decided to recommend both candidates with Mr. Fuchs as
primary and Ms.Houston as the alternate.
(Note: An Alternate can attend meetings but cannot vote unless required to achieve
quorum.)
Vice Chairman Olesky moved to approve recommending John Fuchs for membership
on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee with Marilynne Houston as the
Alternate,and to forward the recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners
for review and appointment.
Second Mary Bills. Carried unanimously,5—0.
B) Adopt-a-Park Assignments
(1) Mary Bills
o Bayview Park
• Inspected on a Sunday—"jam packed"—parking,is not sufficient
even with addition of new parking spaces on Hamilton
• Benches and tables near the restroorns are very nice
• Wooden benches(overlooking the water)need attention,i.e., new
paint
• Path by the water-needs to be weeded

• Restrooms are very nice
• New Turnaround works very well
(3) John Ribes
o Barefoot Beach Preserve
• Submitted two-age written report with photographs
• Totally understaffed—Staff is very committed but overworked
• Ranger Office space is not functional-too small
• Concession is not up to standards—needs a kitchen
• Restroom facilities are being upgraded but not good
o Vanderbilt Beach Garage
• Is in good repair
VII. DIRECTORS HIGHLIGHTS:
• "Dogs in the Park"Ordinance was passed by the Board of County Commissioners
o Effective Date. June 1s
o All parks will allow dogs except the beach parks
o Will educate public concerning rules/regulations
• Budget
o Will present to the County Manager next week
a Two new parks will open in 2014
• Requesting additional staff
• Bayview Project
o Playground is being installed
o Anticipated completion; June,2013
