MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COLLIER COUNTY
PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
Naples, Florida, December 19, 2012
LET IT BE REMEMBERED, that the Collier County Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board, in and for the County of Collier, having conducted business
herein, met on this date at 2:00 P.M. at North Collier Regional Park,
Administration Building, Conference Room A, 15000 Livingston Road,
Naples,Florida, with the following members present:

I. Call to Order
John Ribes,Chairman called the meeting to order at 2:00 PM.
A quorum was established
II. Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and Invocation was held.
III. Approval of Agenda
Mr. Olesky moved to approve the Agenda as presented. Second by Ms. Bills.
Motion carried unanimously, 5-0.
IV. Approval of November 14,2012 Minutes
Mr. Olesky moved to approve the November 14,2012 Minutes as presented. Second
by Ms. Bills. Motion carried unanimously, 5-0.
V. Staff Highlights
a. Employees of the Month for October and November
Barry Williams announced Peg Ruby,Sandra Gurrola,Kerry Runyon,Alex
Sulecki and Annie Alvarez as the Employees of the Month for October:2012.
They were recognized for going above and beyond their responsibilities working
on a group effort for a Halloween event.
Steve Weisberg received the Employee of the Month Award for November 2012
for going above and beyond his responsibilities working on the Lacrosse
Tournament held at NCRP.
John Ribes presented the"Employee of the Month"awards.
b. Marketing Report
Ilonka Washburn distributed the Winter/Spring REAL Guide 2013 and a
Calendar of Events for the month of January 2013. She gave a brief overview:
• Sun-N-Fun will be open for the winter holiday season.
• January 15 -Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Serenity Walk Park.
• January 4 and 5 -Ziggy Dicks BBQ Cook-Off and Festival at the Golden
Gate Community Park.
c. Highlights from Holiday Events
Annie Alvarez reported:
• Eagle Lakes had their first Holiday Event with 1,000 in attendance.
• Max Hasse-Light up the Community
• Several Parks had Breakfast with Santa was very successful.
• Snowfest Event held at Golden Gate Park attracted approximately 8,500 to
10,000 participants.
• Christmas Around the World held in Immokalee attracted approximately
4,500- 5,000 participants.

VI. New Business
a. Clam Pass Bridge Repairs
Hank Jones reported the Clam Pass Bridge was completely repaired with the
mechanism working and the permit closed. He reported vandalism on the new
aluminum gates. The gates were wrecked and torn off the hinges.
There are 4 pilings that need to be replaced. It was estimated to cost$100,000.
They plan to wrap pilings with plastic next summer. Additional quotes will be
requested.
Barry Williams seeks PARAB endorsement to seek TDC Funding for the repairs.
Staff will provide documentation for review at the January meeting.
b. Dog Park
Kerry Runyon reported concerns from Stonebridge Golf Course regarding
barking dogs at Rover Run. Barry Williams and Kerry Runyon met with dog
owners and users at Stonebridge and it was decided some adjustments could be
made. She distributed an aerial view of Veteran's Park: (See attached)
• Proposed eliminating or moving the small dog area.
• Small dog area proposed to install screening between large and small
dogs.
• Building a new concrete washing station.
• New entrance to the dog park.
• Possible acoustic-fence
Staff asked PARAB for their endorsement to make adjustments as presented.
Hank Jones suggested utilizing a less expensive fence and to use vine plants for
screening between the large and small dogs.
Mr. Brougham moved to pursue proposed adjustments made to Rover Run at
Veteran's Park. Second by Mr. Olesky. Motion carried unanimously 5-0.
c. Adopt A Park Assignments
Ms.Bills gave a brief report on Golden Gate Park and Golden Gate Community
Center on December 15. She observed the walking path was uneven and needed
to be refinished.
Barry Williams indicated the launch site will be closed to add another dock.
VII. Directors Highlights
Barry Williams reported:
• Tony Smith,Tiger Tail Beach vendor will be placed on next month's agenda
to seek PARAB approval to sell alcohol at that location.
• BCC approved the Immokalee South Park project to start in February.
• PAR has limited staffing and found a successful vendor to run all 4 marina
Stores. Staff will seek BCC approval in January to outsource running 4 stores
to a private sector.

It was noted Mr. Ribes will not be in attendance for the January meeting.
There being no further business for the good of the County,the meeting was
adjourned by order of the Chairman at 2:50 PM.
