Jerry Sanford, Fire Chief's Association Lee Henderson, Civil Air Patro Mike Jones, CCSO Dr. Joseph Neiween, MRC James Elson, Veteran's Council Voting Members Excused: Chris Nind, Salvation Army Reg Buxton, Chamber of Commerce Walt Jaskiewicz, USCGA Voting Members Absent: Heidi Ruster, Red Cross RSVP does not have a rep at this time Expert Consultant Present: Judy Scribner, CCEM Michael Shaw, CCEM Carolyn Rambosk, NNFD Meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance recited and roll call taken. The minutes of March 13`h, 2013 meeting were approved. Threat Update Lt. Mike Jones reported that the TSA has approved allowing airline passengers to take pocket knives that measure 2 '/4 inches long on planes that coincide with international security regulations. The airlines and flight attendants strongly disagree with the TSA ruling that take effects in April 2013. There is no change in the Terrorist Threat throughout the country. New Business Vote for Office- Ballot Steve Smith with RSVP and Vice Chair for Cit Corps has moved from Collier County. Mike Jones with the SO was unanimously voted to be the new VC. Fire/Hurricane season Update Rick Zyvoloski reported that the Fire Season is closing down and Hurricane Season starts on June 1, 2013. Experts are reporting an anticipated busier than normal season. LMS Report Next meeting is Friday July 19. NNFD may apply for monies available from Hurricane Isaac to retro fit their doors. Emergency Management Update Mike Shaw reported his participation in the Turkey Point Exercise and his facilitating the Schools reunification Plans. Collier County could be a host County for East Coast evacuees if there were a problem at Turkey Point. The FEMA evaluated exercise will be next month. EM continues to work on the Collier County All Hazards Guide. EM distributed the Citizen Corps Grant that EM is not able to apply for but the individual CERTs may be able to apply for the money. NNFD will look at the possibility of applying. Civil Air Patrol (CAP) CAP will be hosting a celebration of the opening of their Mainsail Drive Hangar 10 years ago. The event takes place on Sat May 18 at the Mainsail Drive location. RSVP Steve Smith is no longer in Collier County and his replacement has not been recommended yet. MRC Dr Neiween reports that the 2"d injection during the flu season is not needed according to the CDC. He spoke on the 2 most noted viruses as of today. The novel Corona Virus has been traced back to Saudi Arabia and is transmitted through close human contact. No cases have been reported in the US. The virus can be lethal. The other virus, H7N9, is a new bird flu. Appears that it is contracted by those who handle birds; no human to human transmission has been verified. Veteran's Council: Jim Elson reported on the many events taking place over the next few weeks honoring our soldiers, First Responders, and all those who volunteer their time and caring to be in the midst of those who fight for us. Jim will send Judy the event announcements and she will send them out to all. There is a ceremony on Monday May 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Naples Memorial Gardens on 111th Ave N. CERT: Russ reported that the Hurricane Seminars will be starting; there is one scheduled for May 31 at Fiddlers; Scott Zedecker will be the main speaker. On May 28th, at the BCC meeting, CERT will be receiving a Proclamation and asking that the first week of June be C.E.R.T. Awareness week. The meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. or can be watched on Channel 97.
